Stottler Henke licensed AT&T Natural Voices text-to-speech software to use in their Task Tutor Toolkit (T3), a set of Java(TM) technology software libraries and applications used for creating intelligent tutoring system scenarios for a range of application-specific simulators to support diverse training areas. Scenarios allow students to apply their knowledge and skills to assess realistic, complex situations, identify relevant facts and procedures, and select and carry out the appropriate actions to succeed. The Task Tutor Toolkit is particularly useful for augmenting simulation-based training with automated instruction in technical areas such as software and equipment operations and organizational procedures. Text-To-Speech is particularly important in this case because the pilots must focus on the task at hand and feedback can be given using synthetic voices, rather than text.
